    Rupert Mayr
    Restaurant owner and farmer Rupert Mayr developed the famous "Lukashansl" guesthouse in Ferleiten at the start of the 20th century. The adjacent farm is today a large alpine zoo and leisure park with a children's play area run by the Mayr-Reisch family.
    • Born 28 March 1891 in Bruck a.d. Glocknerstrasse
    • Lived with his parents in Bruck and in Ferleiten
    • The plan was for his brother to take over the family business, but he was killed in the First World War. Therefore it was Rupert who inherited the farm and the "Lukashansl" guesthouse in Ferleiten.
    • Oversaw the running of a farm, slaughterhouse and bed & breakfast on the premises
    • Was married to a woman from Vienna, the daughter of an important cattle breeder; he met her while purchasing cattle in Vienna
    • His father was involved in the construction of the Glocknerstrasse road, talked to Emperor Franz-Joseph and  had the road named after Empress Elisabeth
    • Had two daughters, Elfriede and Herta. Elfriede would later go on to take over the runnung of the business. Today the Gasthaus Lukashansl still exists as a restaurant, while the farm has been turned into a large alpine zoo and leisure part with a children's area and is run by son Georg. 
    • Rupert Mayr died 14.5. 1971

    Franz Reisch
    Founder of the Sporthotel Reisch and pioneer of alpine skiing in Kitzbühel. He was the first man to ski on the Kitzbühel Horn mountain and the first ski instructor in Kitzbühel.
    • Born on 17 October 1863 in Kufstein
    • Moved to Kitzbühel in 1890
    • Took over the running of the family's waxworks in 1891
    • January 1893: brought skiing to Kitzbühel (from Norway) and became the first man to ski on the Kitzbühel Horn
    • First skier and ski instructor in Kitzbühel
    • 1896: married Marie Tscholl - the couple went on to have five sons and two daughters
    • Purchased more and more property in Kitzbühel, including the Sporthotel Reisch (opened 1912)
    • Founded numerous sports clubs, including a ski club
    • Was a member of the local gynmastics club
    • Became mayor in 1903
    • Pioneering spirit - played a major role in establishing Kitzbühel as a ski destination in winter
    • Died suddenly while skiiing in 1920

    Ernst Reisch
    The oldest son of the Sporthotel Reisch founder, Ernst Reisch was a passionate skier, ski jumper and bobsleigher. In 1931 he founded the Kitzbühel Ski Club, which still exists today, and played a major role in making Kitzbühel the tourist magnet it is today.
    • Born on 4.3.1899 in Kitzbühel
    • The oldest son of Franz Reisch
    • Completed an excellent education in the field of hotel hospitality
    • Worked in Munich, Switzerland and South America
    • Served in both World Wars, was wounded and received military honours
    • Was major if the village as well as chairman of the local sports club and transport club
    • A passionate skier, ski jumper and bobsleigher
    • Founded the Kitzbühel Ski Club in 1931, which still exists today
    • Played a major role in establishing Kitzbühel as a tourism destination
    • Was a member of the local choir and gymnastics club
    • Died 01.08.1966 in Kitzbühel
    • Had 7 children and passed the Sporthotel Reisch to his oldest son Rupert

    Toni Sailer
    Toni Sailer was and still remains a bone fide Kitzbühel legend. The former ski star and singer also worked as head coach of the Austria Ski Team and race director of the legendary Hahnenmann downhill race. Toni Sailer will always be associated with KItzbühel!
    • Born 17 November 1935 in Kitzbühel
    • Member of the "Kitzbüheler Wunderteams" (Christian Pravda, Ernst Hinterseer, Anderl Molterer, Fritz Huber, Hias Leitner) 
    • Won three gold medals at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Slalom, Giant Slalom, Downhill)
    • A the 1958 Ski World Championships in Bad Gastein he won gold in the Downhill, Giant Slalom and Combined events as well as silver in the slalom and many further awards
    • One of the most successful skiers of all time
    • Attended an acting school in Berlin and featured in numerous TV shows and films such as "König der silbernen Berge" and "Der schwarze Blitz". 
    • Singer with 18 records to his name
    • 1972 – 1976 head coach and technical director of the Austria Ski Team
    • 1986 – 2006 race director of the Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel
    • 1999: voted Sportsman of the Century
    • Died 24 August 2009 in Kitzbühel

    Alfons Petzold
    The Kitzbühel-based poet celebrated his biggest success with "Das rauhe Leben". His works were tolerated by the Nazis, who saw in them a glorification of Austria and even re-published some of his poems.
    • Born 24.9.1882
    • Was forced to go to work at the age of just 14 in order to support his family
    • Lost both his parents at the age of 20
    • Always continued to believe in the goodness of life and began to write down his thoughts
    • Came into contact with the social democratic party and found in Josef Stern his first supporter
    • 1920: lived in Kitzbühel and published his most successful work "Das rauhe Leben"
    • His works were tolerated by the Nazis, who saw in them a glorification of Austria and even re-published some of his poems
    • Became forgotten after the Second World War, though his works have always remained relevant
    • Died 25.1.1923 in Kitzbühel
