Schwarzsee lake in Kitzbühel
When things get hot in Kitzbühel during the summer months, there is no better place to cool off than at the Schwarzsee lake. Located on the edge of the village, it can be reached in just a few minutes by bike and is open from late May until early September. The lake has an average temperature of 23°C and is known as one of the most beautiful swimming lakes in the Alps. Its water is even said to have healing properties thanks to the moorland setting.
A visit to the Schwarzsee lake is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of town life and enjoy nature at its purest as you lie back, relax and admire fabulous views of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains.
Summer at the Schwarzsee lake
The Schwarzsee lake in Kitzbühel may have been formed during the Ice Age, but its crystal clear water reaches a temperature of up to 27 degrees Celsius during the summer months, making it a pleasant place for swimming even on cooler days.
There are two swimming areas on the shores of the lake, both offering sports facilities and activities.
Those who want to get out and explore can hire an electric-powered boat or a rowing boat, while families will enjoy the walking trails leading around the lake. Walkers can use the lake as the starting point for the Three Lakes Circular Hike – ending with a cooling dip in the Schwarzsee lake!
